AirAsia to increase flights between Kuala Lumpur and Trichy effective September 1, 2009
To introduce second direct daily flight AirAsia will increase its Kuala Lumpur-Trichy (Kerala) services, with a second direct daily flight from September 1, 2009. The low cost airline currently serves the Trichy – Kuala Lumpur route with direct daily flights departing from the Kuala Lumpur's LCC Terminal using the 180-seater Airbus A320 inducted recently in its fleet. To celebrate the introduction of the second Kuala Lumpur -Trichy frequency, AirAsia will be offering all inclusive fare from RM 129 (LKR 1730). The promotional fare will be available between July 28 and August 2, 2009 for travel between September 1, 2009 and April 30, 2010.
Kathleen Tan, Regional Head of Commercial, AirAsia Group said, “Yet again, we are proud to be servicing an underserved route and opening-up the market to the world. We had always known that the Kuala Lumpur -Trichy route will perform exceedingly well. Trichy is a highly popular and desired destination amongst the Hindus in Malaysia as it has an abundance of temples, which are popular pilgrimage sites for Hindus. There is growing VFR traffic from Trichy, using Kuala Lumpur as a connecting gateway to over 130 routes in ASEAN and beyond. In fact within the first month of flying to India, we have enjoyed a load factor of 100 per cent on this route. We feel it is timely to add a second frequency, which is a reinforcement of our growing interest in the Indian holiday demand.” Trichy was the first destination in India serviced by AirAsia. To date, AirAsia has flown close to 70,000 pax on the route in less than eight months.
